Imagine your son is graduating high school and feels called in his heart to pursue a teaching career. And you tell him his heart is deceitful and it would be selfish of him to do so, that he should be an architect instead. That would screw with his head in a major way and lead to resentment. There IS a way to follow one’s heart under the direction of God. To preach otherwise is incredibly toxic.
