Why I have a relationship with God (and how you can have one, too)

If you’ve read many of my posts, you’ve probably heard me talk about God, the Bible, and prayer. That’s because my relationship with God is one of the most important aspects of my life – so much so that it impacts everything else.

I honestly don’t know what I’d do without God in my life. He gives wisdom, comfort, and guidance. He brings joy, peace, and strength. He is always there when I need Him, and is the one thing in life that I can 100% depend on.

He makes me a better teacher, a better wife, a better mom. He brings me joy when I’m frustrated, peace when I’m overwhelmed, and wisdom when I’m confused.

He is incredible.

Do you know Him?

Let me tell you a little more about Him…..

A relationship with God is everything! Find out how to have one....

God is our Creator. You and I are not some random acts of chance. We have been individually created by God, formed in our mother’s wombs, fashioned after His plan. God, who created all things, who holds the worlds in His hands, knows me. And He knows you.

More incredibly, He loves you.

He loves you so much that He did something desperate to rescue you from yourself and from your sin. We’ll get to that in a minute, but first let’s talk about this sin…..

God is holy, and because He is holy, He cannot tolerate sin. And we all sin – none of us can measure up to His perfection. Because sin cannot be in His presence, there exists a real place called hell where people are separated from God because of their sin. (Romans 6:23)

But, wait, I thought you said God loves us…..

He does. He loves us so much that He gave His life so that we could have a relationship with Him. You see, God’s holiness cannot allow sin into His presence, but God’s love found a way. Jesus, the son of God, was born as a baby, grew into a man, and died in our place. (Romans 5:8)

What’s more, He didn’t stay dead. Three days later He rose again, proving that He is indeed God and everything He claimed is true.

When Jesus died and rose again, He took sin’s penalty for us and prepared a way to make us righteous. Not because of what we’ve done, but because of what He’s done.

We could try so hard to be good every day until the day we die, but it just wouldn’t be good enough. Instead, Jesus now offers us His righteousness as a gift. (2 Cor. 5:21)

And, I’ve got to say, this gift is incredible. When we simply choose to believe Him and accept His gift, He makes us new. He declares us righteous, making a way for us to have a relationship with God. He saves us from the penalty of hell and promises us a home in heaven. He sends His Spirit to live within us, to guide, comfort, and strengthen us.

What a gift!

I chose to accept this gift when I was a child, and every day I am so thankful for His goodness. I simply can’t imagine trying to face life’s challenges without Him, and I’m incredibly thankful that I never will have to.

So what about you? Do you know Him?

Would you like to?

Accepting His gift is simple. Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Simple. Straightforward. Believe that Jesus is who He claimed – that He is God’s son who died in your place and rose again in victory. Then confess Him with your mouth. Simply pray and ask Jesus to forgive your sins and to give you His righteousness.

And when you do, your life will never be the same.

Whether it is teaching, mentoring, or sharing your faith, the aspect of reflecting upon who you are and what you do adds authenticity and humility to your writing. As a fellow Christ follower, I am passionate about helping students learn not only for the sake of having a rewarding career, but also, to learn for the sake of ministering to others and glorifying God through their relationships. As a believer and a teacher, I think reflection is an important element for continued growth.
